LC resonance
LC resonant circuit calculator
Solve for frequency, missing component, loaded Q and 3 dB bandwidth of LC tank circuits.
Provide any two of frequency, inductance or capacitance; the remaining value is derived automatically.
The resonance relationship f = 1 / (2π√(LC)) links the tank's reactive components to its natural frequency, while the series resistance sets the loaded Q and bandwidth. Entering three known values lets the solver back-calculate the missing quantity.
Designers often start with a target frequency, pick a readily available capacitor, then solve for the needed inductance. For a 3.58 MHz IF strip with a 220 pF capacitor, the calculator suggests about 8 µH and reports the resulting Q and −3 dB bandwidth so you can size coupling resistors or plan for the desired selectivity.
